Fresh arrival 2023/2024 harvest! This is our third year purchasing coffee from Monte Verde. The quality is exceptional again this harvest, and we are excited this coffee just scored 93 points with Coffee Review (full review link below).
We (and you) loved this coffee so much last season, that we upped our volume commitment to the producer for a third straight year. We roast this coffee on lighter side of the roast spectrum to preserve all of the delicious sweetness and acidity, but this coffee is not too delicate to be a daily drinker. If you are used to a more "medium" roast level, we think you will still really enjoy this coffee. A crowd pleasing every day drinker when prepared hot, but also one of our absolute favorite coffees when iced!
The Contreras family has been farming coffee on the volcanic slopes of Monte Verde for 5 generations, collecting almost 100 years of family coffee experience. The 36-hectare farm is only 93km from the capital city of San Salvador, outside the smaller city of Santa Ana. The mill employs 30 men year-round, then up to 150 men and women during the peak harvest season.
The current owner-farmer Rene Contreras, has worked closely with our import partners over the years to improve quality control and processes. Rene and his family are deeply invested in their community, as his wife is a doctor who provides health care locally. We love this coffee for its milk chocolate sweetness and pleasing acidity.

Great morning cup of coffee, very smooth! Perfect
Great morning roast with low acidity. It’s now our regular go morning to brew when available!
This roast is one of my favorites; so, when it is available i like to order this.
It is one that can be served to any coffee lover who appreciates a wonderful locally roasted coffee.
I like Speedwell coffees because they use very high quality beans, grind in small batches and tend to roast coffees in small batches. For me, appreciating lighter coffees as I get older, the El Salvador Monte Verde is balanced, not too acidic and has a silky mouth feel. For those wanting more robust and deeper-flavored coffees, this varietal may not be for you. This was not as "winey" as the the dark roasts Speedwell says, but is more like the Sunrise, Blossom or African (Ethiopians are my personal favorites) coffees I buy from them. This coffee is mild, has hints of dried honey, nuts, florals and displays a tiny hint of milk chocolate on the nose perhaps.
The light roast is smooth and the flavor is good. Of the two blends I tried so far, I slightly preferred the Blossom light roast.
