El Conquistador is a lot from Dota, a small subregion adjacent to the Tarrazu valley proper, more remote than the areas where most of the coffee in Costa Rica is planted. La Minita, our importing partners who source and mill this coffee, buy and process coffee from small-holders in the surrounding hillside communities, altitude ranging from as low as 1200 meters to as high as 1900 meters above sea level. The coffee is mechanically de-pulped, then sun dried on patios, which is common in Costa Rica.
A classic Costa Rican cup profile, wonderful as a drip coffee, espresso, or even cold brewed. Notes of dark chocolate abound, along with toffee and hints of tropical fruits as the cup cools.

This coffee is fantastic. Smooth and balanced. Our go-to every day brew.
So far I have tried this and the nor’easter. I’m a blue bag kind of girl I think, so the nor’easter is my favorite but this is also absolutely delicious. definitely bright, as another reviewer mentioned. Nine bars is next on my try list.
We grabbed a bag of the Costa Rica Conquistador right before the holidays and it's exactly what we were looking for in a medium roast. Already came back for another bag and started a subscription to try more of the medium roasts (they are all great).
Tried this on a suggestion in December and came back for a second bag this week. Great rich smooth coffee is definitely a new favorite. Speedwell coffee is terrific place to get suggestions on new varieties of coffee to try.
I have used a few different single origin Roast from Speedwell over the last couple of years. I called before placing my order and Trevor recommended trying this Roast. Have to say this is one of my all time favorite. The notes were spot on and produces excellent golden Crema espresso shot. Thanks again Speedwell for another Great batch!
