This is our first year buying from Jaime Figueroa Cantillo. He is a farmer in the municipality of Garzón, Huila, and is the owner of four farms in the area that together make the Samaria lot. Don Jaime is growing mostly Caturra, Castillo and Variedad Colombia as well as some recently planted Gesha and Tabi. In addition to coffee, he also cultivates a substantial amount of cane sugar and processes it onsite into panela.
Over the last 2 years, he has invested heavily in his farm's infrastructure. He now floats all of his cherry (this allows unripe cherries to be removed) prior to de-pulping and fermenting in concrete tanks. He al so built state-of-the-art raised drying beds under shade in a clean and well-managed concrete and metal structure with the goal of slowing down drying to create clean and stable coffees. Finally, he spends quite a lot of time creating healthy compost by combining cow manure with the substantial amount of cherry skins leftover from the processing of the coffee.

Not being a big fan of black tea, I was skeptical about this offering. Well my skepticism melted away after making adjustments to my grind and brew temp. Wow, its a wonderful flavor profile and the vanilla and honey are very noticeable.
I'll be purchasing again until the next seasonal Columbia offering arrives.
Another win for Speedwell.
I like Colombian coffee from Huila Garzon & have been buying it from two US suppliers for a few years. Ordered Speedway coffee from the same region to try. Love this coffee for its very delicate smell, very unique soft taste, but the shipping cost is rather high if ordered from Speedwell & it's very disappointing. I ordered 2x12oz of espresso ground & paid $9.95 for delivery which is almost half the price of coffee. While I appreciate USPS priority mail delivery, this was the only available shipping option to choose from. I would rather pay less & wait longer for the shipment to arrive. Other merchants offered more reasonable delivery options & I have been paying on average $15 per 1lb with either free delivery or including delivery for Huila Garzon coffee. I wish Speedwell offered less pricey delivery options for its Colombia Samaria coffee.
This is another very good roast from Speedwell. Definitely taste the tea notes in this one. Unique characteristics that I can’t say I’ve tasted in a coffee before. Try it.
